Of Sites and Servers…

June 19th, 2006

Well, I finally got all of the websites I host on to the new webserver. The old server was trying to do to much work with just not enough juice to support it. The new server has been doing fine for the past couple of days it’s been up, which is encouraging considering how much and how fast the old server would fall over…

I’ll have some new pictures up on the Gallery soon, so keep an eye out…

Office Prank

March 7th, 2006

I came in to the office this morning to discover I had been pranked. I thought it was a pretty good one so I wanted to share it with everyone.

All of the caps were originally stacked on top of the wall dividing the cubes. They are off my monitor now; just need to remove the tape and stack them back up. I may follow the advice of my coworkers and glue them this time. :P

Kudos to the prankster; they get A’s for creativity and effort.
(found out later that it was Zach and Suk)

New Pictures Uploaded! 12-03-05

December 5th, 2005

Well, the digital camera finally filled up with pictures so it was time up do a bulk upload. There are plenty of cute pictures of the kid so go check them out here: Gallery Link. There are actually more pictures of our trip to Japan Fest but they go in to their own album…

Also, I’ve finally taken the time to read up on the digital camera. We should be seeing a lot less of the grainy photos after I made a couple of adjustments…

As for the the family in general:
Brooke and the baby have had a cough they can’t seem to shake for anything. The baby got a cold / fever on Saturday so that put the kabosh on mommy and daddy going to the church Christmas party. Mommy and Daddy learned a valuable lesson in making sure to have a backup plan in regards to baby sitters. Oh well, I don’t think we would have seen a Priest dancing on the table this year anyway. :P

My back was really messed up for a week or so through Thanksgiving; really really sore. Don’t know what I did to cause it. It has gotten better though and healed up for the most part; I still get a slight pain here and there.

Sprint and Nextel sealing the deal on Friday - Engadget - www.engadget.com
Hope you’ve been psyching yourself up for the past few months, because it looks like Sprint and Nextel are finally going to become one…

I hope for the sake of Sprint they are going to use NexTel’s network; Sprint is HORRIBLE here in Atlanta. As soon as I can drop their service (contract ends round November) I am jumping ship. I have a friend with a Nextel phone that works in the Marta station (Peachtree Center) below my office (read: way below the ground); that’s insane. On good days I loose signal as soon as I hit the bottem of the esculator….

The logo and keeping Sprints name is a bad idea. Nextel ended up on the loosing end of things I think; and I know many people agree.

I had the pleasure of calling their customer support line the other day. Long story short the support guy was down-right OFFENDED that I even SUGGESTED that their service might in some way be flawed. He suggested I reboot the phone and I promptly hung up on him; I deal with enough stupidity during the day, I don’t have to call Sprint to get more…

Still waiting for a really good phone/pda/mp3player combo…

How-to: Share your keyboard and mouse in realtime with Synergy - Engadget - www.engadget.com

How-to: Share your keyboard and mouse in realtime with Synergy - Engadget - www.engadget.com

From the link:
Synergy is an open source and free software project that allows one to share a keyboard and mouse across multiple monitors on separate computers and even between different operating systems. You may be a prime candidate for Synergy???s superb um??? synergy if you code multi-platform software, use more than one computer at home such as a laptop and a tower, or if your computers have different functions (media server, net machine, etc.). Personally we do all of the above and were in dire need of a swift way to dispose of our old keyboards and mice to make way for all sorts of fun new usb gadgetry.

by Fabienne Serriere

Personally I use x2vnc (linux box) to connect to UltraVNC on my winxp work box. I’ve had a bit of “copy&paste” troubles between the two lately. Either I need to re-compile/install x2vnc or give Synergy another try (tried it awhile back, didn’t like it).

More on this later…

Update Wed Aug 10 11:46:01 EDT 2005
Started using Synergy after one final blowout with x2vnc. After playing around with the configuration on the two computers I fired it up and it seems to work fine. My linux desktop is the ’server’ which should be always-on; and my work laptop is the ‘client’. The client is set to startup on bootup so it should connect on it’s own without any manual intervention on my part. The clipboard between the two hasn’t flaked out yet; that is my main concern.

The testing continues…

Boing Boing: SoKo man dies after 50-hour gaming session

Boing Boing: SoKo man dies after 50-hour gaming session

28-year-old South Korean man dies after a 50 hour gaming session….

Man, that’s dead-ication. (boo-hsssssss)

The guy quit his job cause it got in the way of playing online games. That is the exact reason I have a wife; keep me from doing stupid things like that.

You can bet that there will be those out there that say, “Only 50 hours? I can beat that…”

I’ll give the guy credit, at least he only hurt himself. There have been other South Koreans that have left their 4 MONTH OLD BABY alone while they went to an Internet Cafe’ to play online games (baby rolled over and suffocated). Those kinds of people need things done to them that I can’t even imagine…

There would be one American to top that sort of stupidity. Recently there was a guy who BEAT and KILLED one four month old baby and broke the bones of the baby’s twin brother. That guy… I can’t even see straight thinking about that guy. It BOILS my blood. If I was anywhere near that guy I would gladly take it upon myself to devise pains that he would never forget. But at this point it is left in the hands of the ALMIGHTY GOD to see that man gets what is coming to him.

(personal note: it makes me feel sick just looking at those stories; I have a 4 month old son (almost 5 months now). I can’t even imagine to any degree hurting him on purpose let alone doing what those monsters did)

At this rate there will be a special place in hell for those ‘gamers’ with no sense in their heads and do incredibly stupid/violent things.

Thank goodness we have good gamers out there to restore the balance. The guys from Penny-Arcade are the best example with the starting and continuation of the gamer-charity known as “Child’s Play”. They take cash and toy/game/console donations and distribute them to various children’s hospitals. This gives kids stuck in the hospital something to do besides lay in their beds sick. Here is a link to the Charity: Child’s Play
